The Tallest Known Living Women (women who are 6'6 1/2" / 200cm or over) Please note that the measurements in feet/inches do not fully correspond with the figures given in centimeters. Apart from that I can't give any guarantees that the figures and stats below are correct! If there are mistakes please let me know so I can correct them. I hope that I haven't given the impression that women are hereby solely reduced to numbers. This has never been my intention. I must admit I love statistics though! Should you be listed here without your knowledge and against your wish please get in touch with me and I will remove your entry. This website is intended to help ladies like you - not to endanger your privacy or personal integrity! Two of the Tallest Ladies in the World have died in the past few years. Please take the time to visit the "Virtual Memorials" for 7'7 1/4" Sandy Allen and 7'2" Margo Dydek.
Meet the tallest woman alive: De-Fen Yao from China who stands at 7'9" (236,2cm) confirmed! There have been reports that claim 48 year old Kátia Rodrigues from Brazil is 237 or even 240 cm tall but this can not confirmed. More... Recently there have been rumours that De-Fen Yao has died because of complications after her surgery. I can't confirm this but I don't believe there have been any further news as to her well-being. De-Fen Yao's plight has been featured rather prominently in the media. I sincerely hope it will make a difference (for her sake!). According to a programme on the Discovery Channel UK she was supposed to have an operation on the brain tumour which caused her gigantism in January 2007. So far I haven't had any news if the operation has taken place or not. More on the tallest woman alive: Article: The biggest wish of Asia's tallest woman Finally some good news on De-Fen Yao: "Gigantism patient receives treatment in Shanghai" I've been asked several times why I consider Ms. Yao to be the tallest woman in the world: Well, as you can see in the video-clip it has finally been confirmed that she is the tallest woman in the world. I guess the Guinness Book of Records needs to be updated. The story: 19 years ago she was diagnosed with Acromegaly – a disease resulting from a tumour on the pituitary gland causing it to pump out excess growth hormone. Thanks to a documentary being made for a British Television programme, two of the leading doctors specialising in Acromegaly have offered to help De-Fen for free. The doctors and the television production team have been raising money for De-Fen’s recovery and future. Even though the actual appear is now over you can still visit the Yao Defen Appeal Website. Please note: Personally I wish both De-Fen and Sandy were ten inches shorter, healthy and could lead a relatively normal life (like Margo Dydek). It seems that you can grow up to 7'2" and still not suffer from major health issues. Being tall isn't a good thing if it kills you or forces you to live in poverty.
